Update – work work work CANCER work…

So, it has been a while since I’ve been active on here. Partly because life got away from me! I’ve been so incredibly busy in the past two years. My first year of teaching was a success and 2016 saw me working with Stage 3. I was hard at work for the first semester of the year and then I noticed something wasn’t right…

Term 3 rolled around and I had been sick for weeks. And I mean WEEKS! I spent about 8 weeks going back and forth between dip sh** doctors. I kept on focussing on work, because when I was working, I didn’t notice what was going on with my body. I decided it was time to switch doctor and after a series of tests and scans I was advised to go straight to hospital as they were fearing respiratory failure. That visit was uneventful, all I had was an appointment with a respiratory specialist in 4 weeks time.

August 31st rolled around and all I remember hearing was “I’m not going to lie, it looks like Lymphoma”. After a CT scan and core needle biopsy (OUCH!) it was all confirmed as Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. I left work Term 3 Week 7 for the rest of the year to kick cancers arse.

So, here I am. I’ve just finished 8 rounds of chemotherapy and am about to start radiation mid January. Oh, and I’m returning to work next year. I’m working with Stage 3 again. The tricky part will be juggling radiation AND teaching.

Anyway, I have uploaded some new resources on my TpT website. Go have a gander!

Exhausted.

So, I’ve oficially moved to Sydney, bought a new car, met with my school and I feel so useless. My classroom isn’t set up and I can’t do anything with it because in 3 weeks time I’m going to be moved into a new room. I’m starting to feel like I don’t know anything. Tuesday is a SDD so hopefully I will have some time to get in there and add some things. What have I gotten myself into?!

Stress Less

I’m actually beginning to feel excited about this next chapter in my life. I found out I have a stage 2 class which is wonderful! Such a great age! I have found a place to live until I find my own place which has taken some of the stress off. I’m really warming up to the idea of living in Sydney. The only downside is I will have to travel 50kms each way to get to work. I have never driven in the city before so this will be a BIG challenge. I’m starting to prepare myself for my class and I can’t wait to see the school.

New Horizons

It comes with great anticipation and sadness that I announce I am the new stage 2 teacher at a lovely school in Western Sydney. I am saddened that I will be separated from my family and friends and move to a huge city. This is something that I never wanted for myself. Country girl at heart, this will be one of the biggest challenges I will ever face. I will be putting my hard earned cash into living arrangements and pretty much put my life on hold for 3 years.
I am, however, excited that I will have my very own class full of eager children. Now to mention the support I will be given.

Plans change, people change. It’s all about taking the bull by the horns and enjoying the ride.

Time to put me feet up and stress out.

There’s no better feeling than knowing I can have a sleep in. The school holidays comes with much anticipation. I, however, am so stressed out about next year. January will be a mad dash to organise my life. I’ll be recieve in my appointment to teach, looking for a place to love, planning my curriculum for the term, moving and starting work. Let me just juggle some knives while riding a tricycle through a burning ring of fire while I’m at it.

What a day! I walked into school with the understanding I would be on upper primary. This changed in an instant and I spent the day with 25 transition kids. 4 year olds aren’t the easiest age to teach, especially when you aren’t trained in early childhood education. I thought I’d make the best of the situation and the day went really well.

During lunch I was told that some artwork that I did with year 3/4 has been selected for an art show. This news put a huge smile on my face. Oh and I cuddled a ginnie pig!

I’m back on 3/4 tomorrow and we will be creating water-colored imperial dragons in the morning, fractions in the middle session and sport in the afternoon. Let’s see how it goes.

Numeracy and Play Dough

On Friday I had the pleasure of teaching 16 Kindy / year 1 kids. I decided I needed to change it up a bit and try to keep my lessons as engaging and hands on as possible. Play dough was my go to. In Maths we used it to shape numbers and make symbol representations. They loved it!

Play dough is so cheap to buy these days. I especially love the individual tubs as it allows each student to have one.

These only cost me $10 at Kmart.
